Celebrate with SilenceIsViolence

Date: Tue, Feb. 07, 2012 THIS EVENING, SilenceIsViolence will host our last Music Clinic before the Carnival break. We are proud to recognize Shamarr Allen, SIV Music Director, who is featured on the 2012 Jazz Fest Congo Square poster! See http://www.art4now.com/

Following the Music Clinic led by Shamarr this evening (2700 Chartres Street, 5:30-7:30pm), we will hold a community celebration of a recent NOPD policy reversal, which discontinued the gratuitous publicizing of homicide victim arrest records. The entire community can be proud of this positive change, and the pressure we collectively brought to bear on a practice that was harmful to both grieving families and the cause of public safety in New Orleans.
Community Celebration and Carnival Kick-Off
Tuesday, February 7, 7pm-8:30pm
Sound Cafe, 2700 Chartres Street at Port

Finally, we are excited to announce the upcoming New Orleans Bayou Steppers/SilenceIsViolence annual second-line parade, to be held on Saturday, March 31. This parade will focus on the healing power of cultural expression in our community. Father Jerome LeDoux, formerly of St. Augustine Catholic Church, will be our honored guest for this parade. In lieu of traditional stops, the parade will center around a banner blessing, bestowed by Father LeDoux, for all social aid and pleasure clubs who wish to participate.

BE A PART of our March 31 parade, and support SilenceIsViolence as a Peace Agent this year! All are invited to attend the parade. Those who are able to support SilenceIsViolence programs with a charitable contribution will be recognized during the parade by wearing the following:
$75: Peace Agent T-Shirt
$150: Peace Agent T-Shirt and Corsage
$250: Peace Agent T-Shirt, Corsage, and SilenceIsViolence custom umbrella
