Music Clinics Fall 2010
Sat, Oct. 02, 2010
We are thrilled to announce the Fall 2010 SilenceIsViolence Music Clinics, led by Shamarr Allen. The Clinics feature instruction on a range of musical instruments, dinner, and a supportive community for young New Orleanians and their families every Tuesday evening from now until Thanksgiving.
Founded in memory of Dinerral Shavers and his inspiring work as a music instructor and mentor, our Music Clinics aim to provide a positive, nurturing environment; an appreciation and understanding of creative expression as a hobby and a profession; and a demonstration of the healing power of the arts. It is a small but important way in which we seek to counter the culture of violence and spread a message of peace through the youth communities of New Orleans.
Please join us for a kick-off and celebration of this season's Clinics this Tuesday, September 21 beginning at 5:30pm at Sound Cafe (2700 Chartres Street). Shamarr and his music-coaching team will begin instruction at 5:30. The New Orleans Bayou Steppers, sponsors of the SilenceIsViolence campaign for peace, will be on hand to share information about the club's activities, including all anti-violence programming. New Orleans Bayou Steppers club member Margie Perez will follow the clinics with a free performance at 7:30pm to benefit our parading and social aid projects. And dinner will be served for all Music Clinics participants, courtesy of Schiro's Restaurant.
The Threadheads are once again sponsoring this year's Music Clinics, but we still have approximately $10,000 to raise for this season. If you are able, please make a contribution in person, by mail (NOBS, 520 Port Street, NOLA 70117), or via our website: www.silenceisviolence.org. Thank you!
