Peace Walk for Eula Mae Butler Ivey

Date: Sat, Oct. 02, 2010

UPDATE regarding Peace Walk in memory of Eula Mae Butler Ivey

from SilenceIsViolence and the New Orleans Social Aid and Pleasure Club Task Force

Please note that the Peace Walk/City Walk that has been planned for this coming Thursday evening at the request of Eula Mae Butler Ivey's family may be altered. Ms. Eula Mae was murdered outside her daughter's home in West Carrollton on June 14. Her killing seemed to be connected to a shooting involving her grandson, and tensions remain high in the district and surrounding the family.

In light of the particularly tense circumstances surrounding this loss, we have been in close communication with the New Orleans Police Department in order to plan an event that will respect both the memory of Eula Mae Ivey and the safety of her family, neighbors, and Peace Walkers. Therefore the route we posted last week on the SilenceIsViolence website may change as our conversations with the family and the responsible NOPD officials continue.

We will send plans for the memorial as soon as they are finalized.
