WHO: Baptist Community Ministries, Citizens for 1 Greater New Orleans, Common Good, New Orleans Crime Coalition, Puentes, Safe Streets/Strong Communities, Urban League of Greater New Orleans and the Young Leadership Council
WHAT: District Attorney Candidate Forum
WHEN: Monday, September 15, 2008
6:00-7:30PM
WHERE: Roussel Hall, Loyola University
6363 St. Charles
New Orleans, LA 70118
HOW: Free and open to the public
WHY: The upcoming election of a new Orleans Parish District Attorney is extremely important. Several nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations are hosting a candidate forum focused on Public Safety. The forum will provide an outlet for candidates to address their involvement and plans for improving the criminal justice system, since it is a large concern for New Orleans citizens. Candidates will also have the opportunity to discuss the proposition on the October 4 ballot to institutionalize the Orleans Inspector General and NOPD Independent Monitor positions in the city charter.
All qualified candidates for the District Attorney’s race have agreed to attend, and each will have an equal opportunity to present his or her views. An independent panel will prepare the candidate questions in advance. Audience members can submit written questions to the panel that evening on cards provided for that purpose (so arrive a little early if you would like to submit a question). If you need additional information about the Public Safety forum, please call Susan Sellers at 504-722-0266.
